The Oyo State government has disclosed that the about 1800 bags of rice donated by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Nigerian Custom Service as part of COVID-19 palliatives were all infected and unhealthy for consumption.
The rejection was as a result of the thorough inspection of the grains by the committee on distribution of relief materials at the warehouse where they were kept.
The executive adviser to thr Governor on Agribusiness, Dr Debo Akande who spoke on behalf of the state governor said that the donations were rejected after repeatedly thorough inspection to the warehouse where the rice were stocked.
He however said that the donations were rejected with the hope that the Nigerian Custom Service will replace them with quality ones void of infection.
Also he added that the rejection will not stop the distribution of palliatives across the state which will begin very soon.
